St Jude’s Girls Qualify for School Basketball Final, Eye World Championship

Bayelsa State St Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata, have booked their place in the final of the ongoing Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship
The 26th edition taking place in Lagos saw the Yenagoa based side fight from a setback to secure a final against a Government Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State that defeated them in their last group game.
The seven-time champions lost to Government Secondary School, Gboko 39-65 in their second group game, but despite the defeat, they still secured semifinal spot thanks to their first group match 61-45 emphatic win over Lanreleke Academy, Ileogbo, Osun State.
The girls recovered sufficiently from that defeat to edge Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti 46-42 in the second semi-final after Urhobo College, Warri were earlier thrashed 62-35 by Government Secondary School, Gboko, Benue
St Jude’s Girls Secondary School will be hoping to put the defeat behind them as they look forward to another encounter against a Benue team that has been ruthless.
Jude’s Angels fondly called last won the Milo Basketball Championship four years ago, a period that has seen the school nurture and rebuild young talents for the future.
The Girls which were sponsored by the Bayelsa State Government to Serbia in 2022 following their title triumph will have an opportunity at World School Basketball Championship should they beat tournament favourites, Government Secondary School, Gboko, Benue in the final.
According to Godwin Abari Adagbo Coordinator, Nigeria School Sport Federation, Bayelsa State, the much-anticipated final between Bayelsa and Benue will hold on Thursday, 2nd July while Vibes and Cultural Day holds Tuesday
