Nigeria Wins Five Gold At Central African Wrestling Championship In Brazzaville, Congo

 

Team Nigeria ended Central African Wrestling Championship, which was held in Brazzaville, Congo with Five gold and one silver in Freestyle, Beach and Women’s Wrestling.

Team Nigeria recorded an outstanding performance on the opening day of the championship, securing three gold through Terry Godfrey in Men’s 65kg Freestyle

In the 53kg Women’s Wrestling, Andrew Woyinkorikiye displayed the true fighting spirit of Nigeria, by clinching another gold while Precillia Archbone 45kg added Nigeria’s third gold to make it three out of three events the contingent competed for.

Team Nigeria carried the remarkable show of excellence into the Beach Wrestling with two more gold from Andrew Woyinkorikiye and Precillia Archbone while Terry Godfrey settled for silver.

The delegation concluded the tournament in Brazzaville with 5 gold and 1 silver, placing them tournament overall third-best below DR Congo and Congo Brazzaville, which finished first and second respectively due to the number of athletes registered.

Adeniyi committes to accelerate skill development and enhance competitive readiness for grassroots athletes through international tournaments

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service maintains that the
necessity for Nigerian Wrestlers to adapt quickly to new opponents and unfamiliar environments the drive behind the step-by-step plan for local talent identification.

“Competing against international peers introduces athletes to diverse wrestling styles, tactics, and higher physical demands.”

“I must say athletes love winning. So, success in international tournaments always inspires the next generation of youth to work hard. It also broadens their cultural and social perspectives, provides direct visibility to professional scouts, and establishes clear pathways for future success.”

“This is one of our strategies for athlete development. Mind you, international representation often attracts more public and private funding to local sports infrastructure.” Adeniyi said.

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria to Central African Wrestling Championship in Brazzaville, Congo aside the three wrestlers included coach Kingkuro Oyinbrakemi Tangi, and Nigeria Wrestling Federation Assistant Secretary, Abigail Ibrahim sponsored by the President Nigeria Wrestling Federation
