Team Bayelsa Turns Attention to National Sports Festival Elimination
Following the conclusion of the South-South zonal elimination of the maiden National Intermediate Games, Team Bayelsa has shifted its attention to another major assignment, the National Sports Festival elimination scheduled to begin on September 13, 2026, in Calabar, Cross River State.
Bayelsa contingent will be aiming to secure qualifications for the team sports events at the National Sports Festival, which is billed to take place in Enugu later this year.
The state’s team sports will compete against their counterparts from other states in the South-South zone across four available team sports in both male and female— Football, Beach Volleyball, Volleyball and Basketball, with qualification slots at stake for the prestigious national multi-sport festival.
The elimination provides another opportunity for Bayelsa athletes and teams to demonstrate their competitiveness while seeking to earn a place among the best teams that will compete at the national level.
Having just concluded a demanding campaign at the National Intermediate Games elimination, the state’s sports technical departments are expected to build on the experience gained in Calabar as preparations intensify for the new assignment.
The Bayelsa contingent will be hoping to maintain the momentum generated from its recent grassroots sports campaign, where the state competed strongly against other South-South states.
The National Sports Festival remains one of Nigeria’s biggest platforms for discovering and showcasing sporting talents while also providing athletes with the opportunity to compete at the highest domestic level.
With the South-South elimination commencing in Calabar, Team Bayelsa will now look to secure qualifications across four available team sports and represent the state strongly when the National Sports Festival gets underway in Enugu later in the year.
