Historic Visit: Nigeria’s Female Military Veterans Join Forces with Government to Tackle Malnutrition and Food Insecurity

In a landmark moment for national development and social impact, the Office of the Vice President played host to the formidable Female Military Veterans Association (FMVA), led by the trailblazing Morenike Grace Henry—Nigeria’s first-ever female Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The visit marked a bold new chapter for Nigeria’s veterans, who are now shifting their battlefield from military defense to nutrition, maternal health, and community resilience. With unwavering patriotism, the FMVA pledged their commitment to the Nutrition 774 Initiative—a bold, nationwide push to end malnutrition across all 774 local government areas.

“Their willingness to serve at the frontline of nutrition and food security is a powerful statement,” said a government source. “It proves that solving malnutrition in Nigeria requires collaboration from every sector—government, civil society, and community leaders alike.”

Earlier the same day, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, alongside senior officials, held critical discussions with the Director-General of the African Development Bank and the Country Representative of the World Food Programme.

The high-level meeting focused on driving long-term investments to rebuild livelihoods and ensure sustainable nutrition for all Nigerians.

“We are reconnecting the dots between food security and nutrition—because they are inseparable,” said a spokesperson after the session. “These conversations are not just symbolic. They reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to homegrown, resilient solutions that put people first.”

From military honor to community transformation, the Female Military Veterans Association is proving that service to the nation never ends—it simply takes on new missions. And this time, the mission is nourishment, dignity, and a healthier Nigeria.
