NYSC PROGRAMME IS A TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCE FOR FUTURE LEADERS- GOV. DIRI

 

The Bayelsa State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri has described the National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) programme as a transformative experience for the shapes the future leaders of the nation.

Gov. Diri, who made this known during the 2024 Batch A, Stream II closing ceremony held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Boro Town, Bayelsa State, said as a transformative experience, the NYSC will shapes the future leaders of the nation and Corps members should use the orientation camp lessons to hone their skills and knowledge as well as forge bonds of friendship that will undoubtedly serve them in the future.

 

Gov. Diri, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government/ Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, stressed that the NYSC programme is more than just a requirement ” but a transformative experience that shapes the future leaders of the nation”

He urged them to use the orientation camp lessons to hone their skills and knowledge as well as forge bonds of friendship that will undoubtedly serve them in the future.

“The challenges you have overcome, and the spirit of unity and service you have cultivated will be the foundation upon which you will build your lives and contribute to the development of our great state – Bayelsa and our nation – Nigeria” he said.

He reminded them that service year in Bayelsa will not merely be to fulfil a requirement, but to make a lasting impact. He urged them to embrace the diversity of the state and immerse in the rich cultural heritage and strive to be agents of progress and transformation as the boundless potential of the youths can be harnessed to build a brighter future for all.

“During your stay in camp,there have been challenges and obstacles along the way. However, you have all demonstrated remarkable tenacity and perseverance.You have held on and seen this journey through to a happy conclusion.”

“This same unwavering spirit and determination will serve you well as you continue in life.The lessons you have learned and the experiences you have gained during your time in the National Youth Service Corps will be invaluable assets as you embark on the next chapter of your life.”

“You have shown that with dedication, resilience and a positive mindset, you can overcome any huddle that may stand in your way. This tenacity of spirit is a testament to your strength of character and will undoubtedly be key factor in your future success”,He emphasized.

“On behalf of the government and good people of Bayelsa, he welcomed them to the state, congratulated them for a successful orientation course, expressed the commitment of the state government to corps members serving in the state and declared the programme closed”

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Okpalifo Obiageli Charity urged the corps members to become good citizens and leaders, as well as promote national unity, cultural integration and religious tolerance as they proceed to their various places of primary assignments.

She high lighted the four cardinal programmes of the scheme which includes orientation, primary assignment ,secondary assignment and winding up/ passing out parade.

She emphasized that the orientation programmes remains the foundation of a successful service year, ” I also want to remind all of you that your primary assignment runs simultaneously with Community Development Service.”

“Therefore, while at your places of primary assignments, I urge you to identify the felt needs of your host community and then, initiate and execute viable CDS projects that will address such needs.”

“By so doing, you will leave lasting memories in the minds of members of your host communities for years after you must have left the community.”

Also note that the Bayelsa State Government,along side the NYSC, has put together a reward system for corps members who distinguished themselves during the service year. I therefore urge you to take advantage of this opportunity as you serve your land”. She said.

She further advised them to build up on the foundations they have acquired during the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) In- camp training to improve on their chosen skill as some of their predecessors who heeded the wise counsel by also participating in the SAED Post – camp training are today business owners, doing very well in their various business endeavors,contributing positively to the growth of Nigeria ‘s economy.

She enjoined them to put the nation first, be good ambassadors of the scheme and the nation at large and maintain a high level of discipline, diligence, humility, obedience, respect and commitment to assigned duties.

She charged them to avoid all actions and omissions that will tarnish the reputation of the scheme and put their lives into danger.
She expressed sincere gratitude the Bayelsa State Government for its commitment to the welfare and security of the corps members.

She also appreciated collaborating partners and camp officials for their team spirit, commitment and dexterity throughout the
period of the orientation programme.

She called on all Corps Employers and traditional rulers in the state to assist corps members in settling down quickly by providing them with accommodation and other welfare packages.
