NNL: Efeke Inspects Samson Siasia Stadium, Charges Contractors to Fast-Track Renovation.

‎
‎The Permanent Secretary of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports Development, Mr Pereyi Efeke, on Wednesday inspected ongoing renovation work at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, expressing the state government’s determination to ensure the facility is ready for the new football season.
‎
‎The inspection focused on the ongoing renovation of the stadium’s drainage system, which is expected to improve water drainage during rainfall and provide better playing conditions for football matches.
‎

‎Efeke’s visit was aimed at ensuring that the renovation work progresses at the required pace to enable Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens to play their home matches at the Samson Siasia Stadium, giving their supporters the opportunity to cheer the teams on in Yenagoa.
‎
‎Bayelsa United are scheduled to host Abia Comets of Umuahia on November 8, 2026, in their opening fixture of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
‎
‎Speaking during the inspection, Efeke charged the workers handling the project to accelerate the pace of work, stressing that Bayelsa United cannot afford to play their home matches outside the state.
‎
‎He emphasised that the immediate return of Bayelsa United to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) remains a major priority for the state government, noting that every necessary step must be taken to provide the team with the facilities and support required to achieve promotion.
‎
‎Efeke expressed confidence that the renovation would be completed within the stipulated timeframe, allowing the Samson Siasia Stadium to host Bayelsa United’s home fixtures in the new season.
‎
‎He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the team in its quest for promotion, adding that playing at home would enable the club to enjoy the backing of its supporters while strengthening its push for a return to the top flight.

‎
‎The Permanent Secretary further assured that the government would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful completion of the project, stressing that the stadium’s readiness is crucial to the teams’ preparations and the state’s football ambitions.
‎
‎With the new NNL season approaching, attention is now on the timely completion of the renovation work and Bayelsa United’s ability to translate the government’s support into strong performances on the pitch, with an immediate return to the NPFL firmly established as the club’s ultimate target.
