NET Honours 2022: Ebuka Emerges Most Popular Male Media Personality For Third Consecutive Year

Media personality and Big Brother Naija host Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu has emerged winner of NET Honours 2022 Most Popular Male Media Personality Of The Year.

Ebuka beat other nominees: Uti Nwachukwu, IK Osakioduwa, and Ubi Franklin to clinch the prestigious award for the third consecutive year.

Using data for NET Honours, sourced from a comprehensive database of over eight million users who have engaged with Netng via the websites, social media accounts, and email newsletters within a 12 months calendar period, Ebuka enjoyed undeniable popularity among Nigerians.

Born on July 14, 1982, Ebuka is an alumnus of the University of Abuja, Washington College of Law of the America University, Washington DC, where he obtained his law certificates. Though a lawyer, Ebuka had made a career out of Television presentation, arguably becoming one of Nigeria’s most successful media personalities.

In 2006, Ebuka joined Big Brother Naija House, Nigeria’s most-watched reality show, as one of the housemates. During the show, Ebuka’s oratory and his fluency in the English Language courted the attention of brands in both the entertainment and TV industry, as well as other sectors.

Shortly after leaving the BBNaija house, where he finished eighth, he landed endorsement deals with Guinness to host the widely watched game ‘Friend or Foe’ on NTA. He also hosted the GLO Show on NTA and Guinness Greatness TV.

Through Ebuka’s charisma and ability to enthral the audience with suspense during presentations, he witnessed a commendable growth in the media. In 2011, he was chosen to host Nigeria’s first presidential debate that focused on youth issues, which was broadcasted live across Nigeria. Two years later, in 2013, producers of Rubbin’ Minds announced Ebuka as the show’s new host. Ebuka would go on to interview top celebrities, politicians, and other high-profile individuals.

However, it was not until BBNaija returned in 2017 and Ebuka was announced as the host for the show’s second season that he was thrown entirely into the national limelight. For four years, Ebuka has been the host of BBNiaja, bringing classic fashion, humour, and suspense that have contributed to making the show irresistible to watch and Nigeria’s most-watched reality show.

To appreciate Ebuka’s spiced contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment industry, NET Honours, using verified data from Netng web and social, awarded Ebuka the much deserved Most Popular Male Media Personality Of The Year.

Speaking on why it’s necessary to appreciate the immense contribution of people who work behind the ‘scene,’ Michael Orodare, Editorial lead at ID Africa, said:

“Building on the success of NET Honours in the last six years, we believe it is also important to recognise the great works of other creatives who mostly work behind the scenes and rarely get the commendation they deserve.”
