PDP reconciliation: Saraki, Dickson, Dankwambo meet with Governor Mbah in Enugu

As part of the efforts to settle People’s Democratic Party’s internal conflicts, the party (PDP) has set up a high-powered Special Reconciliation Committee, led by Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President, to meet with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.
It was a closed-door meeting held at the Government House Enugu, other members of the committee that attended the meeting were Seriake Dickson, former Bayelsa State governor, and Ibrahim Dankwambo, former Gombe State governor.
The team is part of a strategic intervention committee constituted by the PDP Governors’ Forum to address grievances and foster unity within the party ahead of its forthcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting and national convention.
The South East PDP had, in a recent communique following its Zonal Executive Council meeting, reiterated its support for Sunday Udeh-Okoye to complete the tenure of the National Secretary position. The zone had also issued a stern warning, threatening to reconsider its stand with the party if their position was not respected.
Saraki, who spoke with journalists after the meeting, described the consultation with Governor Mbah as productive and symbolic, noting that Enugu was chosen as the committee’s first stop in recognition of the South East’s historical role in strengthening the PDP.
“We are here in Enugu as the first stop in our nationwide consultation because we understand the strategic importance of the South East to the PDP,” Saraki said.
“Governor Mbah, as the party’s leader in the region, has shown commendable leadership both in the state and within the party structure.”
Saraki emphasised the committee’s mission to ensure a peaceful and cohesive NEC meeting and convention, adding that the interaction in Enugu laid a solid foundation for the party’s renewal.
“Our discussions were open and fruitful. We are leaving with useful suggestions that will aid us in achieving our mandate. From what we have seen here, there is nothing we cannot overcome. The unity and commitment of our leaders give us confidence in the future of our party,” he said.
Saraki also praised Governor Mbah’s developmental strides in Enugu State, saying they serve as a testament to the capacity of PDP-led governments.
He concluded by assuring that the party’s leadership was committed to building a more united and formidable PDP in the lead-up to future elections.
