Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the 33.5km Elele–Umudioga–Egbeda–Ubimini–Ikiri–Omoku dual carriage road is 90 per cent complete.

Fubara disclosed this on Wednesday during an inspection of the N80.8 billion project, expressing optimism that it would be inaugurated before the end of April or in early May.

The road, designed to link Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas, was awarded to Craneburge Nigeria Limited with a 24-month completion timeline.

“From my own assessment, about 90 per cent of the work has been done, and what is remaining will be delivered before the end of April. I feel very happy because this is not just a project but a signature of our administration,” the governor said.

He emphasised the economic and security significance of the road, noting that it provides access to Omoku, a major gas hub in the state.

Fubara recalled that the route was previously notorious for criminal activities, including kidnapping and armed robbery, but said the ongoing construction had transformed the corridor.

The governor commended the contractor for adhering to the project timeline, adding that the road would enhance security and improve economic activities in the affected communities.

“I think with what we have done here today, those issues will be old stories. It won’t occur anymore because security agencies can now easily assess the place for any eventuality”.
