Gov Diri Female Pre-season Football Tournament Begins In Yenagoa.
The 1st Gov Douye Diri Female Pre-season Football Tournament has kicked-off in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital with ten teams taking part in the competition.
The showpiece, taking place at the Samson Siasia Stadium, is expected to last from the 18th through the 25th of October, 2025.
Bayelsa Queens in the first match of the day at the Samson Siasia Stadium pipped neighbors Delta Queens one nil courtesy of Janet Akekoromowei’s 5th minute goal.
Rivers Angels, at the New Yenagoa City pitch, edged out Imo Strikers of Owerri by two goals to one. Zainab Oduga put the Pride of Rivers in front on 29 minute and Taiwo Ajibade doubled the lead on 49 minute while the Imo-based side responded on 84 minute but it was not enough to secure any point for them.
Bayelsa Princesses in the third match of the day played out a barren draw against FC Robo of Lagos while Moses Aduku’s Edo Queens, in the last match of the day, were held to another barren draw against determined and rugged Abia Angels.
Hostilities will continue on Monday 20th October, 2025 as Rivers Angels entertain Delta Queens by 8:00am, Imo Strikers will take on Nasarawa Amazons at 10:00am while host Bayelsa Queens are drawn bye in group A.
FC Robo in group B will tackle Abia Angels by 12:00pm as Edo Queens confront Heartland Queens of Owerri at 2:00pm while Bayelsa Princesses are on bye. All games will be decided at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
Bayelsa Queens Technical Adviser, Whyte Ogbonda in his post match reaction, commended the girls for the show of determination, stating that the tournament was coming at a perfect time.
He appreciated the organizers of the tournament particularly the Bayelsa State Government for the vision to host the competition in Yenagoa, pointing out that the competition would prepare his team for the new NWFL season.
Also, Delta Queens coach, Samson Keshi, said his team fought gallantly, that the competition has enabled him to know what they intend to face when the season commences, describing the Pre-season tournament as very timely for his club.
