HOUSE COMMITTEE ON POWER STRENGTHENS TIES WITH AFREXIMBANK, EXPLORES RENEWABLE ENERGY INNOVATIONS IN CAIRO

Cairo, Egypt – The House Committee on Power has intensified efforts to advance Nigeria’s energy sector through international collaboration, following a series of strategic engagements in Cairo, Egypt.

Led by Chairman Rt. Hon. Victor Nwonkolo, the delegation held a high-level interactive session with Mrs Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President of Afreximbank, alongside senior management officials of the Bank. The discussions centred on deepening cooperation to expand investment, drive innovation, and deliver sustainable energy solutions to Nigeria.

The session followed the Committee’s visit to the 3 Big Brothers Solar and Renewable Energy Factory in Cairo, where lawmakers were introduced to new frontiers in solar and renewable technologies.

Among the delegation was Rt. Hon. Fred Agbedi, PhD, member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties. Dr Agbedi underscored the importance of capacity-building and knowledge exchange, noting that the insights gained would not only shape national policy direction but also be deployed to positively impact the people of Sagbama and Ekeremor. According to him, access to clean and affordable energy remains central to improving livelihoods, stimulating local enterprise, and driving inclusive development in Bayelsa West.

Also on the delegation were Deputy Chairman Hon. Joshua Audu Gana, Minority Whip Rt. Hon. Ali Isah J.C., Rt. Hon. Engr. Bala, Hon. Zanna, Hon. Nnmadi Ezechi, Hon. Makanjuola, Hon. Abbas, and other distinguished lawmakers.

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to forging stronger ties with institutions such as Afreximbank, while exploring renewable energy innovations that could accelerate Nigeria’s transition to sustainable and reliable power.
