Ineos had been the front-runners to purchase a 60 per cent stake in United, which would have seen the Glazer family stay on in a reduced role at Old Trafford.
But according to paper Al-Watan, owned by Sheikh Jassim’s dad, the Qatari bid for Man United has been successful.
They add that following “successful” talks – an announcement of Sheikh Jassim’s takeover will arrive “soon”.
Sheikh Jassim’s latest offer for a 100 per cent stake in United is thought to be worth around £5bn.
The Red Devils’ takeover race is set to finally reach its climax after seven months of bidding.
It was announced that the Glazer family would be open to selling up all the way back in November – on the same day it had been confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo was to be axed.
Should reports in Qatar be confirmed, Ratcliffe will miss out on buying his boyhood club.
Sheikh Jassim, a member of the Gulf State’s ruling family, handed United negotiators an ultimatum last week.
