Bayelsa Deputy Hails Bayelsa United NPFL Sustenance, as The Prosperity Boys Ease Out Tornadoes
Bayelsa State Deputy governor senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has commended the resilient spirit of players of Bayelsa United for sustaining their Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL status.
Two first half goals from Alex Oyowah and Stephen Wisdom gave host Bayelsa United a comfortable 2-0 victory over visitors Niger Tornadoes in the final match of the season.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo gave commendation during Bayelsa United final league match against Niger Tornadoes at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, commended the players and coaching staff of the state-owned football club following the memorable victory against Tornadoes to maintain their NPFL stay despite the conspiracy to see the Yenagoa based side return to the Nigeria National League NNL.
He noted that plans to see that Bayelsa United become a force to reckon with next season has already commenced with recruitment of good players, stating that it was most heartening that by virtue of the league’s sustenance the club would produce a sterling performance next season.
The Deputy Governor, who attributed the performance of Bayelsa United to the team’s determination, said the Prosperity administration’s dream is to use sports as a veritable tool to eradicate cultism and criminality in the State.
He noted that he was not surprised by the performance of the State in all the sports because monies invested in the teams are well spent by the teams.
The number two man in the state also announced cash rewards to the players and the technical crew for the triumph against Tornadoes for remaining in the NPFL for another season.
He equally appreciated Arise News correspondents Ovieteme George, awarded with an award by the management of Bayelsa United for his outstanding reportage of Bayelsa United matches throughout the season.
Also, in a post match interview technical adviser of Bayelsa United Diepreye Teibowei, said the lads gave their best to beat Niger Tornadoes 2-0 having dropped points at home earlier in the season.
He attributed the Prosperity Boys inability to pick super six place to the performance in the first stance of the season, pointing out that the injection of new players onto the squad played a crucial role to his team in the second round.
Awards were also presented to some of Bayelsa United who were delegated and committed to the team throughout the season, Edwin Ayiba, Robert Mizo, Stephen Wisdom, Alex Oyowah,Alex Jerry, Taiwo Adbulrafiu, Kelvin Ogunga, Osagie Onisodumeya and Sheriff Yinusa.
