Fans of the Wikki Tourists Football Club (FC) in Bauchi expressed disappointment over their team’s fumbling performance against the Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS).

The ongoing 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) saw Wikki Tourists FC play 1-1 against the visiting Sunshine Stars of Akure. This result puts Wikki in eighth position with nine points from 10 games in Group B, a far cry from their fans’ expectations.

The fans were dismayed by the team’s lackluster performance, which they described as the worst outing so far.

They were unhappy with the 1-1 draw, raining abuses on the Coach, players, and management of Wikki Tourists FC.

Mr. Aminu Garba, a Wikki FC fan, explained that the team’s woeful journey began in the first half when they failed to coordinate correctly. It was only in the second half, after 50 minutes, that the Captain, Idris Guda, secured a goal through a penalty.

However, Cletus Emotan Eba equalized for Sunshine Stars just three minutes before stoppage time, leaving the fans frustrated. Garba added that it seemed as though Wikki Tourists were not ready for the NPFL and that something needed to be done to avoid embarrassment.

Another fan, Mr. Abdullahi Safiu, blamed the management for not setting the standard of players, stating that the players didn’t look professional.

He advised the government to take action before the club suffers relegation. After the match, Wikki fans confronted the players to register their displeasure over the team’s performance in the current campaign. The two coaches declined to give a post-match interview due to tensions from the fans invading the pitch immediately after the final whistle.

Wikki will now face Niger Tornadoes in Match Day 11 on Wednesday in Kaduna. The team will need to up their game if they hope to impress their fans and climb up the league table.
