Be Intentional About Looking After Yourself — Monalisa Chinda
Nollywood actress, Monalisa Chinda has advised Nigerians to be intentional about going for medical checkups. Sharing a clip from the latest episode of her talk show, ‘You and I With Monalisa’ which airs on Africa Magic Urban, the actress noted that despite the cost of healthcare, engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression.
“I can’t emphasise on this enough. I know how expensive our hospitals are in Nigeria, and most of the health care service providers are eager to help but still need some sort of funds to run their facilities to be able to offer maximum care.
“However you must be intentional about looking after yourself for obvious reasons: Engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, improve energy, and more,” she wrote on Instagram.
She further noted that health is a blessing wealth can’t buy. “We wish it wasn’t the case but it is. @ drteestyle has said it all. Don’t wait till you break down to arrest the problem,” she added.
Lending her voice to the discourse, her guest, Dr Tee Style urged Nigerians to go for a health check at least once every year. According to her, people spend money on good shoes, good clothes, food and everything, but ignore their health.
“I think spending money on our health is a struggle in this part of the world. And I understand where it’s coming from because we don’t have a good health insurance policy. But if you can, and if you can help somebody, just go for a health check. The beauty about health checks is that when you do it, they might see something early enough,” she added.
