Alan Shearer highlights moment of brilliance from Mo Salah against Aston Villa
Mo Salah was the hero for Liverpool again yesterday as the Reds saw off Aston Villa 1-0 at Anfield on Steven Gerrard’s big return.
Salah was brought down by Tyrone Mings in the box and duly ignored the distraction tactics from Emi Martinez to fire his penalty low into the bottom left corner to send Anfield into raptures. It was Salah’s 21s of the season already, and he continues to excel in Klopp’s system.
In the past, Salah has been accused of diving to win penalties. However, on this occasion, Salah was clearly brought down by Mings, who put in a sloppy challenge. And speaking on MOTD last night, Shearer felt on this occasion, the Liverpool man was simply clever in his play.
“I just want to highlight. Watch what Salah does with his left foot there. He just steps across Mings, which is what you’re told to do and you have to do. Once you step across, he’s going to bring you down and he wasn’t going to miss was he,” Shearer said last night.
While Salah got his penalty, Villa boss Steven Gerrard felt his own side should have had one. However, Alisson was adjudged to have got the ball, and not Danny Ings’ leg.
TBR’s View: Salah Continues To Defy Logic With Liverpool Form
We are seeing something special with Mo Salah at Liverpool this season. He keeps producing big moments and like yesterday, they often come from nothing.
Salah took what looked like a simple pass and one on one situation for Mings and made the Villa man make a rash challenge. Indeed, Mings knew in an instant what he’d done.
21 goals already is remarkable. As things stand, Salah could be on for a record-breaking season with the Reds.
