The Director General of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, also known as the Prosperity Cup, and Board Member of Bayelsa United Football Club, Ono K. Akpe, has congratulated the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Daniel B. Igali (OLY), on his distinguished recognition at the Bayelsa @ 30 Anniversary Celebration.
In a congratulatory message personally signed by him, Akpe described Igali as his “Goodman, brother, friend and pride of our land,” noting that the honour is in recognition of his outstanding achievements and immense contributions to sports development.
Akpe described Hon. Igali as a true Bayelsa sports legend and a global icon who has flown the flag of Bayelsa, the Ijaw Nation, Nigeria and Canada with uncommon honour, dignity and excellence — from the mat as an Olympic Gold Medalist and World Champion to the office as a dedicated public servant transforming sports in the state.
He said the award is most deserving and a celebration of decades of sacrifice, discipline, patriotism and inspiring leadership which continues to inspire generations of athletes. He prayed that Almighty God will continue to strengthen Igali, grant him sound health, greater wisdom and even greater victories in his service to Bayelsa and humanity.
