Ycee: I’ll enlighten the youth on getting their PVCs for 2023 elections

Ycee, the Nigerian rapper, says he will use his platform to enlighten the youth on getting their permanent voters cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2023 elections.

The 28-year-old entertainer spoke on Monday at the incredible music festival organised by MI Abaga in collaboration with YIAGA, a civil society organisation.

Ycee, whose real name is Oludemilade Martin Alejo, said grassroots participation is important in politics to integrate the youth into the democratic processes of the country.

The rapper also disclosed that he is willing to register to vote and also help the youth through the process of getting their PVCs.

“Grassroot participation is very important. MI and I had a conversation and I said I would be willing to register to vote in the next election and use my platform to get as many young people through the process of getting their PVCs,” he said.

“So, I just feel like we owe it to ourselves, we owe it to the future generations, we owe it to the existence of this great country to be a major part of the electoral process.”

Ycee revealed that he has been avoiding politics because it was “responsible for the death of my father in 2001”.

“Politics has actually left a very bad taste in the mouth of my family because, in 2001, my father was killed for his political aspiration. He was murdered in his own home in Ikorodu,” he said.

“I was really young at the time, so i didn’t fully understand what was going on, but  getting older and learning more about it makes me feel indifferent about what political in Nigeria really stands for.”
