The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday, declared that the recent vote of confidence passed on the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party was of no consequence.

He, therefore, urged those that were celebrating the development, including the immediate past national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus to shelve their merriment for now.

Wike while speaking in Port Harcourt, at a reception organised for decampees from various political parties who have joined the PDP, said:
“I was watching and listening to one man called Secondus who was dancing, celebrating that NEC gave their person a vote of confidence. He has forgotten history. Ask him, the same NEC, through Babaginda Aliyu, who moved the motion for a vote of confidence, supported by Ndudi Elumelu, gave him a vote of confidence. But what happened? He left the office.

“We don’t fight and go back. If you like you can have as many as 20 votes of confidence, it is not my business. My business and my team are to make sure that the right thing is done in PDP.

“And the right thing must be done, whether today or tomorrow. So let nobody worry his/herself. If you are dancing, come home and dance. Come and mobilise for the person you think will win the election.”

He challenged Secondus to return home and mobilise support for the candidate he is supporting for the 2023 elections, saying, “We are here, I am here waiting for them. No more 419 in this game; no more 419 in this state. We have stopped all these 419 people. Enough is enough.

“You people should go home and rest. We know we are already waiting for the day set by INEC for them to blow the whistle.

When they blow the whistle, we will know those who are in charge of Rivers State and those who are mere visitors to the state.

“You know that we have those in Rivers State and those who come from Abuja. We stay here as those of us from Rivers State Monday to Sunday. Visitors come Friday and go back on Sunday,” Wike said.

Governor Wike commended the decampees for their courage to rejoin their political family because it is true that there is no other political party that can win an election in Rivers State except the PDP.

Rivers State chairman of PDP, Desmond Akawor, said that the party was presenting a certificate to acknowledge the governor’s excellent performance because he has surpassed their expectations.
