The Polo recently received a facelift but we couldn’t help but notice that the Volkswagen Polo GTI was excluded from the reveal of updates. A graphic design artist has put together this render based on the current revisions to give us an idea of what we can expect.

As penned by KDesign, the front of the Volkswagen Polo GTI has been depicted to boast a new bumper with a large set of intakes that look to be inspired by the current Golf GTI. The black trimmings surrounding the intakes have been included as well. As the new design adopts an LED strip that connects the new headlamps, the traditional red line is absent. The Red GTI badge remains where it should.

At the side, the Volkswagen Polo GTI render stays close to its standard design apart from the GTI branding above the front wheel arch. The rear also keeps things close to home but a rear bumper which houses a small diffuser and dual exhaust tailpipes is design to accentuate dynamism. The taillamp cluster and, more interestingly, the hatch spoiler have been carried over from the standard trim. For added sportiness, the R-Line wheels and a blacked out roof have been added to the render.

For powertrains, considering nothing has been changed throughout the line-up, we can assume that the upcoming updated Volkswagen Polo GTI will sport the same EA888 2,0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine pushing 147 kW and 320 N.m of torque to the front wheels. It’s not clear whether the brand will add the new seven-speed dual-clutch to replace the current six-speed.

Volkswagen is yet to make any confirmation as to when we can expect to see the updated Polo GTI which will likely continue to be assembled in SA.
