Onoja Joseph
A young man identified as Onoja Joseph, who escaped from kidnappers in Kabba, Kogi State has just shared his account of how he escaped. after he and other passengers were abducted while travelling in an 18-seater bus from Owo to Abuja.
The account of the young man, who claimed he hails from Benue State but can speak Yoruba, shows that some local indigenes work hand in hand with kidnappers. It also shows that the kidnappers’ wives aid and abet them, as according to Onoja, as they were leaving, they (the wives) were praising and encouraging them.

“I was travelling from Owo to Abuja for my SIWES when the incident happened. We were in an 18-seater bus when we were attacked and taken into the bush. For about three hours, we were marched through different terrains and crossed around seven rivers.
I eventually escaped when it started getting dark; I hid inside a bush until it was safe to move. When I came out, I met three men in a village and thought I was finally safe. They asked where I was coming from and immediately started calling the bandits, asking why they allowed someone to escape. They were speaking Kabba, but I understood some of it because I can speak Yoruba.
They told me to sit and wait, but I pretended I needed to use the toilet—then I ran. As we were leaving, we even saw their wives, who were “praising and encouraging them.”
