VeryDarkMan Speaks Out After Release From EFCC Custody

Nigerian social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has broken his silence following his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

THEWILL reports that VDM was detained by the EFCC in Abuja on Friday, May 2nd, sparking public outcry and calls for his release from prominent figures. After five days in custody, he was finally released on Wednesday evening.

In a video shared on social media after his release, VDM addressed the allegations against him, expressing shock over being accused of money laundering. He denied any involvement, stating that he does not possess the kind of wealth that would warrant such suspicions.

“They think I am into money laundering, how would they put money laundering for person wey no get money? I have done so many charities, and them they wonder how. They don’t know that I use debt for charity. Anyway, we are outside, with my lawyer, of course”, he said.

However, on Tuesday, the EFCC confirmed that the activist’s arrest was the result of multiple petitions against him, claiming that he failed to honour the multiple invitations sent to him before being arrested.

The influencer’s arrest and subsequent release have continued to generate discussions online, with many questioning the basis of the EFCC’s actions.
