Tuchel reportedly sacked after denying Boehly access to Chelsea dressing room
April 22, 2023
According to reports, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly fired Thomas Tuchel just days after being denied access to the dressing room with his guests during a match in September 2022.
The incident occurred during Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over West Ham at Stamford Bridge, where tensions between Boehly and the German manager emerged due to the club’s transfer policy during the summer months. However, the clash during the match was the final straw for Boehly, leading to Tuchel’s sacking.
The match was Tuchel’s last as Chelsea’s manager in the Premier League, with the score level at half-time. Boehly reportedly requested that his guests, including children, be allowed into the dressing room, but he was denied entry, which forced him to return to his seat in the directors’ box. Tuchel was then sacked just days later after losing to Dinamo Zagreb.
Since Tuchel’s dismissal, Chelsea has been in a state of flux, with Graham Potter replacing him until he was fired in April after spending £323 million on the playing squad in January.
Frank Lampard is currently the manager until the end of the season. However, he had to face a similar situation as Boehly gave a team talk following their defeat to Brighton.
Despite being mocked by pundits, Lampard and Kepa Arrizabalaga expressed no issues with the owner’s actions and saw it as a sign of passion.
Boehly’s ownership of Chelsea has been marred by controversy, with the sacking of Tuchel being one of the most significant issues.
Chelsea is currently in the 11th position in the Premier League under Lampard, who has lost all four games since he picked up the reins on an interim basis.
