THREE DECADES OF RESILIENCE, PROGRESS, AND THE UNCONQUERABLE BAYELSA SPIRIT

Thirty years ago, we embarked on a journey born not just of political necessity, but of a profound desire for identity, equity, and self-determination. We stood at the precipice of history, armed with nothing but the audacity of hope and the unyielding conviction that the “Glory of All Lands” deserved its rightful place in the Nigerian federation.

As we mark this historic milestone, we do not merely celebrate the passage of time; we celebrate the indomitable spirit of the Bayelsa person.

From the marshes of the creeks to the corridors of power, our journey has been defined by a unique resilience. We have navigated turbulent waters, yet we have remained afloat, stronger, wiser, and more united. We have transformed from a state of anticipation into a vibrant hub of culture, intellect, and enterprise. The story of Bayelsa at 30 is a story of survival turned into sovereignty, and potential turned into power.

To the heroes of the struggle, the founding fathers and the foot soldiers of the State Creation Movement, your labour was not in vain. You laid the foundation upon which we now build. You dared to dream when it was dangerous to do so, and today, we stand tall on the shoulders of your sacrifice.

To the people of Bayelsa, the fishermen, the farmers, the scholars, the entrepreneurs, and the youth, you are the architects of our tomorrow. Your resilience is our greatest resource.

As the Minority Leader, representing the good people of Nigeria and our great state at the House of Representatives, and as one who stood in the trenches for our creation, I remain committed to the ideals of our founding: Unity, Equity, and Prosperity.

We have come a long way, but the brightest chapters of our story are yet to be written. Let us continue to work together towards a future where every Bayelsan thrives.

On behalf of my family and the good people of Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency, I wish to congratulate our dear state, ‘The Glory of All Lands’. Happy 30th anniversary.

Signed:

Rt. Hon. Frederick Agbedi, Ph.D
Minority Leader, House of Representatives & Member State Creation Movement/Founding Fathers.
