The former governor of Rivers State worked against his party, the PDP in the 2023 presidential election after falling out with its leadership in the wake of his failure to win the ticket for the poll.
He instead backed Bola Tinubu who flew the flag of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), leading to its victory in the exercise. The president who defeated Atiku Abubakar [of the PDP] in the presidential poll later appointed him to serve in his cabinet even though he is still a member of the PDP.
Despite calls for his suspension from the PDP, Wike has defended his action.
“For the presidential election, I said I am going to support equity, fairness, and justice. In the other one, I am going to support my party and that is why we won the governor, National Assembly election,” he said on the show.
“For presidential, I have no apologies because I don’t believe in injustice. Today people say ‘discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ No, I did not do anti-party,” the minister argued.
“I have no regret at all,” he said.
