Seun Kuti says women, money triggered love for music

INSTRUMENTALIST and Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has said that women and money prompted his decision to go into making music.

Big Bird, as he is fondly called, made this known during a recent podcast with rapper, Ikechukwu aka Killz.

The son of late Fela Anikulapo Kuti was asked when he fell in love with making music, and he responded by saying at age seven when he always saw his late dad with a big bag of money and among women.

“My exposure to music was because of my dad’s amazement. I was like if this guy is living this life just playing his music then definitely this is what I wanna do when I grow up,” he began. “Uncle Beko was the reason my dad used to save money in the bank. Fela had his money in the house – old school guy, my dad had a bag of money. He had this old school money bag that has a rope that is filled with money all the time and he just dragged it anywhere he was going.”

In conclusion, Seun Kuti said, “After watching this show, I was like mehn this has to be the easiest job in the world. You play your music, they pay you all this money and you have all these women so what else. As soon as we got on the bus I just went to meet my dad and said I want to start playing music, he asked if I could sing and asked me to sing then I sang Sorrow Tears and Blood.”
