Russia-Ukraine crisis : Super Eagles striker unilaterally terminates contract with Russian PL club
Sylvester Igboun has unilaterally terminated his contract with Russian Premier League club Nizhny Novgorod.
In a statement last week, Fifa stated that due to the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine, foreign players and coaches will have the right to unilaterally suspend their employment contracts with the FUR-affiliated clubs in question until the end of the season in Russia (30 June 2022).
Igboun is now considered out of contract until 30 June 2022 and will therefore be at liberty to sign a contract with another club without facing consequences of any kind.
The Super Eagles striker joined Nizhny Novgorod in February 2022 after mutually terminating his contract with another Russian Premier League club Dynamo Moscow.
He made his debut off the bench in a RPL clash against Ural on February 26 before another substitute appearance against his former club Dynamo Moscow in the round of 16 of the Russian Cup three days later.
Among Nigerians to have played in the Russian Premier League, only CSKA Moscow legend Ahmed Musa (48) has scored more goals that Igboun (28).
Igboun’s other clubs include FC Ebedei, FC Midtjylland and FC Ufa.
