REPS PROBE FCT MINISTER OF STATE AND SIX AREA COUNCILS CHAIRMEN – RT. HON. FRED AGBEDI

The House of Representatives Committee on FCT Area Council and Ancillary Matters has organized a session to question the six Area Council Chairmen of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) regarding their expenditures. This session is scheduled to commence next Tuesday.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Chairman Rt. Hon Fred Agbedi, Ph.D, expressed profound concern about the absence of the Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmud, and the six area council Chairmen. He stressed the importance of their presence to address the Committee’s inquiries regarding the utilization of allocated funds.
The Chairman, Fred Agbedi criticized the members, stating that their actions showed disrespect for the parliament.
He clarified that the Committee was not conducting a witch-hunt but emphasized the importance of holding those in service accountable.
In response, the Minister apologized for not being able to attend the committee’s invitation and assured cooperation in the future. The Area Council Chairman for Kwali, Danladi Chia, also apologized on behalf of his colleagues and pledged full cooperation for the probe.
Additionally, date for the appearances of the Area Councils before the Committee is as follow:
1). Abaji Area Council on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
2). Bwari on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. 3). Gwagwalada on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
4). Kuje Area Council is Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
5). Kwali on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
6). AMAC on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
