Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria’s Transport Minister, announced that the Warri-Itakpe railway line has experienced usage of over 200% as it has become the preferred means of transportation for travelers between Abuja, Kogi, Edo and Delta States.
The Minister disclosed this in a statement on Friday at the flag-off of commercial freight services on the Warri-Itakpe rail line, in partnership with the NRC & NNPC, to move materials for the AKK gas pipeline project.
The Minister added that the commencement of freight activities at the rail line would boost Nigeria’s GDP and enhance the socio-economic development of communities along the route.
“Already, patronage is up by over 200% in the last few months and is becoming a preferred means of transportation for travellers between Abuja, Kogi, Edo and Delta States. We want to extend this rail line to the FCT,” he said.
