PSG’s bid for Lookman falls short as Atalanta stand firm for 2024 African FOTY frontrunner
Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman has been tipped to become the next African Footballer Of The Year following his 2023-24 season performance
Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of Ademola Lookman has hit a snag, as their initial offer has fallen short of Atalanta’s valuation for the 2024 African Player of the Year frontrunner.
Despite PSG’s strong interest in securing the services of the Nigerian international, Atalanta remain resolute in their stance, refusing to part with their star forward for anything less than their asking price.
According to reports circulating in the Italian media, particularly from Tutto Atalanta, the Ligue 1 giants tabled a verbal offer of €30 million for the Super Eagles attacker.
However, the Serie A side swiftly dismissed the French side’s bid, considering it significantly below their expectations for the attacker.
Earlier in the year, Lookman’s market value was estimated at around €20-25 million. However, his electrifying performances in the latter half of the season, including a match-winning hat-trick that secured Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph, have seen his valuation soar to between €50-60 million.
For PSG to successfully acquire the 2024 African Footballer of the Year contender, they will need to substantially increase their offer, as Atalanta are not willing to let go of their prized asset for anything less.
The ball is now in PSG’s court, as they weigh up whether to meet Atalanta’s demands or look elsewhere to bolster their squad.
