As a literary personnel your legacy is undeniably till this present time, the most relevant and important in the literary world. your ability to add to the literary genre and make your African poetry special has made you a man to identify with. We can not talk about African literature without your name being mentioned.
In regards Democracy and politics you have shown yourself in every sides and made yourself relevant to bringing societal change to Nigeria and all your valuable contributions against injustice, oppression, corruption and racism as i can never forget your wonderful poem “Telephone Conversation”.
You have also won so many international awards like the Noble Prize in literature 1986 and Anisfield-Wolf Book award 1983, The Anisfield-Wolf Book award is an important international award honoring writers who have made huge contributions to the understanding of human diversity and discrediting racism and many other African Awards.
