Portuguese Defender Spotted At Naturena

There was a new face at Kaizer Chiefs this week, and it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese defender spotted training with the Glamour Boys will officially join them.

Amakhosi Protest – Chiefs Respond

It’s been confirmed to the Siya crew that Jardel Nazaré is on trial at Amakhosi with the hope that, having been assessed, he can play in the Premier Soccer League.

You may remember Nazaré from his most recent trip to SA when Bafana Bafana played Sao Tome in their Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back qualifiers in November last year – he featured in both matches and played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 as well as 4-2 defeats as then coach Molefi Ntseki’s men ran riot.

It appears as though Nazaré, who was born in Lisbon but has been clearly been declared eligible to play for the Sao Tome national team, is currently a free agent.

He hasn’t had a club since December last year and was this week spotted training with Kaizer Chiefs ahead of their CAF Champions League quarterfinals clash against Simba SC of Tanzania at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

Nazaré turns 26 this weekend and it would be a delightful birthday gift if he can impress coach Gavin Hunt and his technical team.

But his move can only happen next season when Chiefs have their FIFA ban lifted in July, should the club decided he is good enough to sign.

Amakhosi would also have to offload at least one of their foreign players having already reached the quota of five non-South Africans allowed (if they do not have permanent residency documents) by the PSL per club.
