Piers Morgan wants Arsenal to sack Mikel Arteta if the club finishes outside the Premier League top four for a sixth successive season. Currently a columnist for The Sun, the Gunners fan launched a scathing rant towards Arteta for Saturday’s dismal 0-0 draw against Burnley.

Arsenal fumbled the chance to enter the top four with a game in hand by beating Sean Dyche’s side, currently rock-bottom of the Premier League.

With Manchester United beating West Ham United at Old Trafford on the same afternoon, Arteta’s men dropped to sixth in the table.

The Emirates Stadium crowd made their frustrations known at full-time, aiming boos at hosts for failing to find a breakthrough.

And in his Monday column, Morgan slammed Arsenal’s failure to beat the ‘worst team in the league’, describing the hosts’ performance as ‘finger-gnawingly depressing’.

And he has brutally called for Arteta’s sacking if he doesn’t guide the Gunners back into the Champions League this season.

He wrote: “This season, despite Arteta splashing out £150million on new players, we’re sixth and already out of both domestic cups.

“Yet astonishingly, in the past few days, it’s been reported that he is about to be handed a big new contract by grateful owner Stan Kroenke.

“What, pray, has he done to deserve such a fat new deal?
