Osimhen hits the post on return from injury as Napoli and Verona share spoils
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr received more good news regarding the fitness of Victor Osimhen before the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde with the return to action of the Napoli striker.
Not only did Osimhen make the matchday squad, he was surprisingly propelled straight into the starting lineup on his return from injury and came through the game unscathed on his return from a calf injury.
Giovanni Simeone prodded in from six yards out to open the scoring in the 13th minute only for Giovanni Di Lorenzo to level matters with a near post finish five minutes later.
Just before halftime, Osimhen was unlucky not to give Napoli the lead as he was denied by the post after a fantastic shot from inside the box.
Verona had a glorious chance to retake the lead midway through the second half but wasted the chance with Antonin Barak playing the ball straight at goalkeeper David Ospina.
Three minutes from time, Osimhen was yellow carded for dissent after his shirt was pulled.
In the most dramatic circumstances, Dries Mertens beat the wall and Verona goalkeeper with a free-kick but was denied by the woodwork.
In stoppage time, Osimhen who was walking a disciplinary tightrope following his booking, made way for Andrea Petagna.
