Obi made the pledge on Saturday during a town hall meeting in Kaduna, where he said his administration would promote unity, love and care among Nigerians.
“We will unite this country. Because we need unity. We don’t want this politics of tribalism, politics of religion. No. We want politics of unity, politics of love, politics of care.
“That’s what we want to do. We want politics that secure Nigeria,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor said the country needs a political system driven by the demands and needs of citizens rather than politicians making promises during campaigns and giving excuses after assuming office.
“What we want now is that we want politics to be demand-driven, not supply-driven,” Obi said.
He said the purpose of the Kaduna town hall was not to campaign but to listen to citizens and understand their challenges before making commitments.
“We are not here for campaign. We are here to listen to you. We are here to listen to you, for you to tell us what is wrong,” he said.
According to him, politicians often go around during campaigns, make several promises and produce “glossy manifestos”, only to start giving excuses after winning elections.
“We want to end that,” he said.
Obi, who arrived in Abuja from the United Kingdom before travelling to Kaduna, said he visited an Islamiyya school in the state to assess its condition.
He said his proposed administration would ensure that policies were based on realities on the ground, stressing that leaders must understand the problems confronting Nigerians before assuming office.
The presidential candidate also pledged to strengthen the partnership between the president and vice president, saying the two would work together to address the country’s challenges.
“Our presidency will be the first one where the president and the vice president will partner in progress,” he said.
Also speaking, NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said the large turnout at the Kaduna meeting demonstrated growing interest in the party.
He said the NDC, which he noted was registered less than a year ago, was gaining strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We thank Almighty God that today we are the leading opposition party,” Kwankwaso said.
He also highlighted insecurity, job creation, education and agricultural development among the issues the party said it would address.
