• Governor expands EdoBEST programme

By Bisi Olaniyi, Southsouth Bureau Chief

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has approved the immediate increase of Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) across board for workers in the state.

Head of Service Anthony Okungbowa made the disclosure on Monday at the Government House, Benin, during a meeting with Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Directors in the public service.

Okungbowa reassured them that the Obaseki-led administration remained committed to sustaining reforms and programmes aimed at improving the lives of Edo people.

He admonished heads of various MDAs to be diligent and committed to discharging their duties, noting that a passionate disposition to work would be the best way to repay the confidence which the government had reposed in the workers.

The head of service also urged workers to support the Edo State governor in realising his “Making Edo Great Again (MEGA)” agenda, aimed at ensuring better welfare of all citizens and economic prosperity for the state.

In their responses, the various heads of ministries and extra-ministerial departments, including the Auditor-General of the state, Mr. B.E. Aigbe, hailed the governor for his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers in the state, pledging their support.

Also yesterday, Obaseki expanded the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme to capture secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

Obaseki, at the inauguration of EdoBEST 2.0, at the Government House, Benin noted that the expansion became necessary to ensure that secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the state benefit from the gains in digital teaching recorded in primary schools through the EdoBEST programme, which was inaugurated in 2018.

He said: “As far as we are concerned in the state, the EdoBEST programme is one of our greatest achievements. We are very happy that EdoBEST has gained global and local recognition.

“We want to replicate the successes and achievements that we have made in EdoBEST to EdoBEST 2.0, which is meant to capture our secondary schools and higher institutions in our dear state.”
