NYG 2023: Bayelsa Director of Sports Charges Coaches to Adhere to the Age Range of Youth Games
Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sport Council Sir Braveman Wodi has once again urged coaches and Secretaries of various states in the country to adhere to the age limit of the National Youth Games.
Sir Wodi gave the charge in Calabar the Cross Rivers State Capital while addressing the media at the end of the zonal elimination.
Sir Wodi who doubles as chairman of the South South Directors of Sports, said Bayelsa State has commenced a sports revolution following the successful hosting of the State Sports Festival, stating that 80% of the athletes that would be participating in the games are products of the State festival.
He noted that continuous drive by coaches and officials to win at all cost was the reason behind the age cheat, noting that the way to curb the menace was to organize cadet championship that would see athletes progress from one grade to another.
Sir Wodi urged coaches and Secretaries to stick to the National Youth Games age range and not to falsify their age because they want to win describing South South as the home of sports in Nigeria.
Chairman South South Director of Sports, commended Cross Rivers government for hosting the zonal elimination, saying that the demonstration has further proven that the region is the powerhouse of sports.
Team Bayelsa qualified in 12 sports male and female out of 15 which include, Football, Softball, Volleyball Male and Female, Beach Volleyball Male, Basketball Female, Hockey Male and Female, Rugby Female and Handball.
Basketball Male, Baseball, Beach Volleyball Female will not be featured in the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
