Nigeria 2-0 Zimbabwe: Five observations from Super Eagles convincing win over Warriors

The Super Eagles kicked off their Unity Cup campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday evening to book a place in the final.
Debutant Femi Azeez was the star of the night, netting both goals to inspire Nigeria to the comfortable win.
Azeez opened the scoring with a powerful low strike into the bottom corner after beating the Zimbabwean goalkeeper.
He later doubled the advantage in the second half, calmly tapping in a fine layoff from Terem Moffi to seal the victory for the Super Eagles.
Chelle handed debuts to eight players
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle handed debuts to eight players in Nigeria’s Unity Cup clash against Zimbabwe in London.
Four players Arthur Okonkwo, Chibueze Oputa, Obinna Igboke and Femi Azeez, were included in the starting XI as they earned their first appearances for the national team.
In the second half, Rafiu Durosinmi, Tosin Oyedokun, Owen Oseni and Aderemi Adeoye were also introduced, completing a total of eight debutants for the Super Eagles in the encounter.
Azeez shines on Eagles debut
Femi Azeez stole the spotlight on his Super Eagles debut with an impressive performance against Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup at the Valley.
The Millwall forward carried his fine club form onto the international stage, producing a match-winning display for Nigeria.
Azeez found the net in both halves, scoring a brace to guide the Super Eagles to a comfortable victory over the Warriors and secure their place in the final of the tournament.
NPFL boys solid defensively for Nigeria
The NPFL stars delivered solid defensive performances for the Super Eagles in the victory over Zimbabwe at the Unity Cup.
Chibueze Oputa and Obinna Igboke, both handed starting roles after earning invitations to the national team, impressed with their composure and energy throughout the encounter.
Oputa was lively on the right flank, combining his defensive duties with dangerous attacking runs whenever the opportunity arose.
On the opposite side, Igboke matched the intensity with an equally disciplined and impressive display at left-back, helping Nigeria maintain a strong defensive shape en route to victory.
Dominant second half performance
The Super Eagles produced a far more dominant second-half display after a below-par opening period against Zimbabwe.
Although Nigeria took an early lead, they were fortunate not to be pegged back, as the Warriors wasted several chances in front of goal.
After doubling their advantage, the Eagles grew in confidence and took full control of the game. They dominated possession, dictated the tempo, and managed the match comfortably through to the final whistle.
Zimbabwe fails to test Okonkwo
Arthur Okonkwo enjoyed a quiet but assured debut for the Super Eagles as Nigeria defeated Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup clash.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper, now at Wrexham, kept a clean sheet on his first appearance for the national team, although he was rarely called into action by the Warriors.
Zimbabwe offered little attacking threat throughout the encounter, limiting Okonkwo’s opportunity to showcase his shot-stopping ability.
However, he remained composed when needed, showing confidence in possession and distributing the ball calmly without making any errors during the match.
