Niger Delta Youth Leaders Call on Tinubu to Restore Democracy in Rivers State

Youths leaders across ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent steps to restore democratic governance in Rivers State.

The call was led by Dr. Tari Theophilus, President General of the Coalition of Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities and President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide. He made the demand during a peaceful “Freedom Walk” held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Dr. Theophilus, who spoke on behalf of the youth leaders, decried the political situation in the state, particularly the absence of democratically elected local government officials. He said the current crisis undermines the principles of democracy, peace, and development in Rivers State.

He urged President Tinubu to act decisively to prevent further political instability, warning that silence from the federal government could be seen as encouraging anti-democratic practices.

The coalition stressed that their action was a peaceful and united stand by Niger Delta youths against the breakdown of constitutional order. They vowed to continue their advocacy until democratic norms are restored and respected in Rivers State.
