Nick Kyrgios speaks on teaming up with Frances Tiafoe for Washington doubles
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios reveals he has a great relationship with USA’s Frances Tiafoe and he hopes they will enjoy their doubles campaign at the Citi Open in Washington. Kyrgios, 26, and 23-year-old Tiafoe are set to debut as a team on the hard courts of Washington.
Kyrgios and Tiafoe were handed a tough opener as they are set to face doubles specialists Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig. “It could be an absolute disaster or it could be a lot of fun. Me and Frances, when we’re together, we don’t stop laughing and we don’t have any sort of tennis talk really,” Kyrgios said, per Kelyn Soong.
Kyrgios loves Washington
“I have always felt at home here. I remember the first time I came to play the tournament, everyone welcomed me with hugs, it was like I was playing in Australia, so it made me feel very comfortable.
During his pre-tournament press conference, Kyrgios hinted at a retirement. “Honestly, I don’t miss it so much anymore,” Kyrgios said, when asked did he miss the Tour. “It’s good to be back, of course, especially in these tournaments where I’m so comfortable and there are a lot of people, hopefully everything goes well.
Instead, the situation is still crazy, every time I play a tournament I feel those vibes that tell me that this could be the last time I am here. In Atlanta I felt the same. It’s like I don’t know where I am, I feel weird, I feel weird about my career right now. Seeing the fans again is the best part of being back, seeing all their support.”
