Nick Kyrgios reflects on incident with drunk fan at Wimbledon

Nick Kyrgios said he definitely didn’t need someone “absolutely smashed” talking trash during the Wimbledon final and noted he is always for a good time but adds there needs to be a certain line fans simply can’t cross.

In the fifth game of the third set, Kyrgios lashed out after a drunk fan could have been heard heckling him from the stands. Kyrgios was able to serve out the fifth game but still lost the match as Djokovic claimed a 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (3) win.

“She’s drunk out of her mind in the first row, talking to me in the middle of the game,” Kyrgios said during the match in a clip that has since gone viral. “The one with the dress, the one who looks like she’s had about 700 drinks, bro!”

“I wouldn’t say she cost me the game but you know like I’m playing Wimbledon finals against probably one of the best players of all time,” Kyrgios said, per Sportskeeda.

“I don’t need someone absolutely smashed talking to me point in, point out, do you know what I mean? I’m all for having a great time but speaking between first and second serve like to me, you know! I’ve been on a couple nights out in my life and I knew that she had too many.

I told the umpire, I was like, ‘She’s speaking to me a lot and she’s drunk, what you gonna do about it?’ He was like, ‘I didn’t know she was drunk’ and then she continued and I was like that’s when you gotta maybe give her a (cup of) water or take her out.”

Kyrgios was contesting in his first Grand Slam final and he was playing pretty well but Djokovic was simply too strong for him. Even thought Kyrgios lost to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, he still owns a positive 2-1 head-to-head versus Djokovic.
