NGO Trains, Empowers 200 Women In Bayelsa

A Non-governmental Organisation, NGO, Do Foundation, Yesterday launched an empowerment programme aimed at building the capacity of women in Bayelsa State.

The foundation also empowered about two hundred women with cash after series of training to enhance their capabilities in a summit held in Yenagoa, the city capital with the theme “One Woman for Another Woman, One Girl for Another Girl”.

According to the founder Do Foundation and convener of the project, Barr. Dise Ogbise Goody Harry, part of the goal of the initiative is to help women realize their potentials and ensure they are empowered to pursue their desires and dreams.

She stated that “In the work we do, we find out that women need empowerment in order to support themselves, so this is a deliberate attempt to equip them and direct them on the way to go about it.

“Some persons think empowerment is just to render financial assistance, but today the various speakers has enlightened and showed this women that empowerment is not just money but building something in them that will last forever. We have showed them how to discover themselves and add value to their lives”

We started off with conversations around how those who are either physically challenged or sexually abused can tackle issues they are confronted with.

She commended other stakeholders, NGOs and well meaning Bayelsa s for their support towards the advocacy for a better society for the women folks.

In her brief, Founder and C.E.O, Edueredugirls Support Organisation, Dr. Elizabeth Ijeh Tarila Jack, commended the initiative for the empowerment of women, noting that she is driving by passion to ensuring female as well as the male folks are educated and empowered.

She explained that the reason why she partnered with Do foundation was because of the initiative of securing a future for the girl child.

She said “I have personally invested in supporting girls educationally and also those who can acquire skills for themselves. Do foundation has the kind of vision I have that is why we are working together to ensure we impact on the larger society. This is the kind of initiative I do, we build them up so as to give them another chance in life.

Other stakeholders at the event include,the representative of the commissioner of Environment Bayelsa state, the Technical Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Girl Child development, Bayelsa State House committee chairman on Women children and social development, JUOTA GLOBAL NIGERIA LIMITED, THE COMPLETE WOMAN, MARGARET BUBA FOUNDATION, OmaLife, Collins Cocodia Foundation, Vice Chairman Nembe local government ms Inikio Daniel and the Association of Women Against Gender based Violence.
