Napoli manager puts a date on Victor Osimhen’s potential return to action
Napoli made it tens wins from their first eleven games of the new Italian Serie A season, beating Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo’s Salernitana 1-0 on Sunday, but had to do so without their record signing Victor Osimhen.
Manager of the Azzurri, Luciano Spalletti has over-utilized his number nine this term, handing him minutes in every game contested by the club with the exception of the Genoa game which he missed only because of a red card suspension.
Speaking at the post-match press conference after the win vs Salernitana, Spalleti is hoping Osimhen returns to the pitch against Verona on Sunday, November 7, 2021.
Bought for around 70 million euros from Lille in 2020, the former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles striker endured a frustrating start to his career at Napoli due to injuries and a Covid-19 related absence, but got over those problems in the new campaign with nine goals in twelve appearances.
In quotes relayed by Tutto Napoli, Spalleti said : “It remains to be seen if he has to stay out for a couple of games. For Sunday he can also do it, we have a lot trust in our doctors”.
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr will be monitoring the physical condition of Osimhen this week as the German is set to name the former Wolfsburg starlet on his roster for the crucial World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.
