Mohamed Salah is on the brink of Premier League history and there’s more to come for Liverpool

Mohamed Salah’s next Premier League goal will take him into the ‘hundred club’, which he will be just the 30th player to join. Liverpool have a special talent.

Only 29 players have reached the prestigious ‘100 club’ in the Premier League, but that is set to be 30 with Mohamed Salah poised on 99 goals in England’s flagship division.

Salah has played just 161 times in the Premier League, spanning his time at both Chelsea and Liverpool — his goal-scoring record for Jürgen Klopp’s side has been nothing short of phenomenal, and the Egyptian has already scored twice in the opening three games this season.

The 29-year-old will be aware that his next goal will take him into the hundred club, and he would love for nothing more than to do it in his next match, when Liverpool take on Leeds United at Elland Road.

Salah is a global superstar, he is a role model for all young children who want to succeed in football. The 29-year-old impressed during his time at Basel, and Chelsea came calling in 2014 when he was just 22.

The Egyptian struggled to settle in West London, but he’s not the only one who had that problem as Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku were both picked up as youngsters and sold not long after.

Not succeeding in the Premier League played on the mind of Salah, who went to rebuild his promising career in Italy’s Serie A with Fiorentina and then Roma.

After hitting 29 goals in 65 appearances for Roma, Liverpool came calling, and it was time for Salah to show the Premier League just what he could do.

In his first campaign in a red shirt in the Premier League, Salah scored 32 times and broke the record for the number of goals in a 38 game season — something the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suárez, Harry Kane and Sergio Agüero have all failed to do.

With this, Salah had written himself into the history books, but rival fans labelled him as a ‘one season wonder’. It turns out Salah is now a ‘five-season wonder’.

Heartbreak in the Champions League final of 2018 made Salah even more determined to bring trophies to Anfield as he scored in the final the next year, guiding Liverpool to their sixth Champions League triumph with a 2-0 win over Tottenham.

Salah’s name was sung on the Kop every other week as he made it clear what we wanted next — the Premier League title. And that was exactly what followed.

Liverpool ended their 30-year wait for a league title in 2020, and Salah was able to notch 19 times and record 10 assists as the Reds were on top of the world.

Last season was tough for everyone connected with Liverpool after watching Virgil van Dijk suffer a season-ending ACL injury in October, while Joe Gomez and Joël Matip also picked up injuries that would prematurely end their campaigns.

It looked unlikely that Liverpool would qualify for the Champions League for this season, but Salah took it upon himself to drag the team towards the finish line.

The Reds ended the season unbeaten in their last 12 fixtures, winning their last five games of the campaign. This was enough for a third-place finish, something that looked well out of sight in March.

Ending the match with the captain’s armband around with bicep, Salah finished off fierce rivals Manchester United with the fourth goal in a 4-2 win at Old Trafford in May, sparking the Reds’ unlikely run to Champions League qualification.

With a new, improved contract on the horizon, Salah is an integral part of Liverpool’s plans as they look to mount a strong challenge for both the Premier League and the Champions League.
