Details about the forthcoming AMG GT have been kept under wraps by Mercedes. It is speculated that the new GT coupe will share its foundational framework with its counterpart, the AMG SL. Executives at AMG have hinted that the GT will offer higher performance outputs than the SL, aligning with its more aggressive coupe identity. The flagship GT 63, for instance, is projected to exceed 430 kW of power and 800 N.m of torque. This potency is derived from a twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 engine paired with a nine-speed multi-clutch automatic transmission. This also bolsters the speculation of the potential comeback of the AMG V8 engine, potentially augmented by hybrid technology.
Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Schiebe emphasized that the Monterey Pebble Beach setting is ideal for the debut of a new model. The new GT will share the spotlight with a special-edition SL roadster, the S63 E Performance super-limousine, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 electric SUV, a range of classic brand vehicles, and the Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven concept car.
Anticipated to be lighter and consequently swifter than the SL 63, which achieves a 0-100 km/h time of 3,7 seconds, the upcoming GT is projected to inherit several features from the SL. These include six driving modes (including Race and Drift Mode), rear-wheel steering, adaptive suspension, hydraulic anti-roll control, AMG composite brake discs, and an electronic locking rear differential.
