Matchday 6 Preview: Heartland Queens, Dannaz Ladies tango in NWFL Premiership
Heartland Queens will be up in a fierce battle against newcomers, Dannaz Ladies in Wednesday’s NWFL Premiership matchday 6 clash at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
Even though both sides will be meeting each other in the topflight for the very first time they are however not strangers in the trenches.
Available facts showed that the premier leaguers were in the same six-team group during the 2021/2022 NWFL Championship promotion playoffs in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.
And on that auspicious occasion the Owerri mainstreams were 2-1 victorious en route to set the unprecedented 100% performance record in the history of the second tier league playoffs.
However, the Owerri landladies’ conjurewoman and tormentor-in-chief on that day, Mary Lucky with the brace will be conspicuously missing on matchday no thanks to the avoidable red card she picked in the barren draw clash at Naija Ratels.
But the sweat merchants on that glorious day, Obi Ogbala is still on the dugout and expected to ring the necessary changes that will see his side overrun the visitors from the nation’s centre of commerce, Lagos.
The Owerri side have been on back to back draws to Confluence Queens and Naija Ratels and the coach Ogbala tutored side know that it’s right and ripe to call a time on the draws and come back once again to winning ways.
Prior to the first time ever topflight matchup on Wednesday, the Owerri mainstreams as inked earlier were forced to a goalless draw at hosts, Naija Ratels in Abuja while the Lagos side overpowered the wayfarers from the Oil City, Royal Queens 2-1.
In the forced absence of the side’s talisman, coach Ogbala is likely to start another bullish, potent and lethal finisher, Chinedu Chinaka to lead the onslaughts with the complements of the duo, Chimebere Opara and Chinwendu Orji.
Of course, high performing netminder, Uchenna Chukwu will keep her gloves and watertight covers will come from hard-as-nails defenders Kelechi Orgii, Onyedikachi Ekezie and Chinyere Iheoma and ex captain Oluoma Onwere.
Midfield will be manned by top performers, Oluchi Okwara, Oluchi Ofoegbu, Chidinma Anaele and first time capper, Marvellous Duru.
Heartland Queens are second on the eight-team Group A log on eight points three adrift leaders, Confluence Queens.
The Owerri side will wrap up the first stanza campaign at the North East side, Adamawa Queens perhaps after the festive breaks.
