...Says Ijaw Nation can not afford to put its eggs in one basket

Ijaw National Congress President Professor Benjamin Okaba has praised George Turnah’s apology visit to him, describing it as a demonstration of strong leadership rather than weakness. Professor Okaba encouraged Turnah to maintain his support and collaboration with FCT Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, emphasizing that the Ijaw nation can not afford to put its eggs in one basket politically.

The Acting State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), George Turnah, had visited Okaba at his Yenagoa residence to pay homage and extend his personal apologies and regrets over some of his public comments regarding the person and office of the INC President which he said were clearly misunderstood and misconstrued by many. During the meeting, Turnah commended Okaba for his dedicated leadership of the INC and urged for greater support. Speaking from his convictions, Turnah reiterated that ethnicity has no place in politics and urged the socio-cultural leader of the Ijaw race to find means to address political issues without necessarily involving the revered INC institution, which he described as revered Socio-cultural organization that represents the Ijaw interest and speaks for the Ijaw people.

Furthermore, Turnah called on Professor Okaba and the INC leadership to initiate robust peace moves in order to facilitate the restoration of suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara back to office in no distance time, nothing that only a sincere apology and genuine reconciliation can yield positive results in the current Rivers political crisis. The INC President on his part appreciated Turnah for the visit and advised to to pay similar visit to the Bayelsa State Governor and Governor General of Ijaw Nation, Senator Douye Diri, for reconciliation, which he noted was essential for the greater good and unity of Ijaw nation. The Socio-cultural leader and father of the Ijaw race cautioned against divisive behaviours amongst the Ijaw political class, and noted that the current calm in Ijaw nation regarding the situation in Rivers State was intentional and deliberate to allow for for peace and enable Governor Sim Fubara to pursue genuine reconciliation with his benefactor and political father, Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. The high point of the visit saw George Turnah kneel to apologize for his misunderstood remarks about Professor Benjamin Okaba and his office.
