Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold reaches huge milestone against Bournemouth
The Reds' defender has reached yet another impressive record with an assist against Bournemouth at Anfield this afternoon - he set up Luis Diaz's second
Liverpool put Bournemouth to the sword during the first half of their fixture at Anfield this afternoon; Luis Diaz’s double and Darwin Nunez’s stunner sent the Reds in 3-0 up at the halfway stage.
But it was the 25-year-old who provided the pass for the Colombian’s brace, and in doing so, reached the impressive feat of 100 goal involvements in a Liverpool shirt – 81 assists and 19 goals. As a result, both he and teammate Andrew Robertson are the joint highest assist makers among defenders in Premier League history – both with 59.
Trent’s consistent performances in the final third have reportedly drawn attention from the likes of Real Madrid in recent months but Liverpool supporters will be hoping they can witness their homegrown player achieve more records in Red, despite his contract being set to expire at the end of the season.
Rumours of a potential departure were further heightened when Trent appeared unhappy when being substituted during Arne Slot’s first game at Anfield against Brentford. However, after the match, Slot played down the drama, he said: “I understand. Every player wants to play 90 minutes but I don’t think the players that were on the bench from the start were really happy with the choices I made.
“But Trent came back from the national team where at the beginning of the tournament he played quite a lot, then he didn’t, had a few weeks off, came back, it’s only his third game and we have to take care of him as well because we need him for the whole season and not only the first two games. The good thing for me is that I have a very good back-up as well with Conor [Bradley], so that means we are taking care of Trent. But he played a good game, that’s also what I saw.”
