Liverpool Jump To Fourth Spot With Big Win
Burnley 0-3 Liverpool
Liverpool moved up to fourth with one game to go after defeating Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor.
Roberto Firmino put the Reds ahead two minutes before the break with his third goal in two matches.
The lead was doubled seven minutes after the break thanks to Nathaniel Philipps, who nodded home Sadio Mane’s cross.
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain sealed the win for the former league champions with two minutes left on the clock.
Crystal Palace 1-3 Arsenal
Arsenal kept their slim European hopes alive with a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.
Nicolas Pepe gave the Gunners the lead on 35 minutes before Christian Benteke levelled matters on 62 minutes.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal on 91 minutes before Pepe wrapped up the win two minutes later.
Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Aston Villa
Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League took a blow after going down 2-1 to Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs dropped Giovani Lo Celso and Gareth Bale in favour of Steven Bergwijn and Harry Winks while Jack Grealish made his first start for Villa since February this year.
Bergwijn fired the hosts ahead in the eighth minute but his work was undone by an own goal by Sergio Reguilon in the 20th minute and Ollie Watkins gave the visitors a 2-1 lead just before the break.
The goals dried up in the second stanza, although Jaden Philogene-Bidance hit the post in stoppages for Villa, just after coming on, as Dean Smith’s charges dented Spurs’ Europa League hopes.
Everton 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Everton kept their hopes of a European place finish alive after edging Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in the penultimate match at Goodison Park.
James Rodriguez was not available for the Toffees due to injury and he was replaced by Gylfi Sigurdsson while Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio was rested, with fellow shot-stopper John Ruddy taking his place.
After a quiet first stanza, Richarlison eventually broke the deadlock for the hosts three minutes from the break and that proved to be the winner.
Newcastle United 1-0 Sheffield United
Newcastle United piled more misery on relegated Sheffield United after edging them 1-0 in the penultimate match at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle were unchanged from the side that narrowly lost a seven-goal thriller against champions Manchester City, with Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin leading the line.
Joseph Willock brought the game to life after breaking the deadlock for the Magpies on the stroke of half-time and David McGoldrick was unlucky not to equalise for the Blades after rattling the crossbar with 13 minutes remaining.
