Liverpool have held talks with Victor Osimhen
Arne Slot’s Liverpool have held talks with Manchester United attacking target Victor Osimhen regarding a potential summer move.

Victor Osimhen’s future has been a massive talking point for some time now. While he has returned to his parent club Napoli, the Nigerian is expected to part ways with them this summer. He is keen on moving to the Premier League where multiple top clubs are interested in his services.
According to a report from TBR, Liverpool are pushing for Osimhen’s signature and they are set to battle Manchester United in the race to his signature. The Reds have held talks with the Napoli striker ahead of a potential move this summer.
Osimhen joined the Naples-based club back in the summer of 2020 after making a name for himself at LOSC Lille. While he was a key figure in their first team in the initial years and even helped them end their three-decade-long wait for the league title, the relationship between the club and the player deteriorated last summer.
He was ready to leave the club but things didn’t go according to plan. As a result, he ended up joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan. Osimhen certainly made the most out of his spell in Turkiye as he scored 37 goals and also bagged eight assists in his 41 outings.
While he is back at Napoli, he has no future at the club. There is no shortage of interest in the 26-year-old. Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal are one of the clubs that are interested in signing the Nigerian international. They are ready to trigger his £63 million release clause.
However, Osimhen doesn’t want to leave Europe at this stage and he has turned down the opportunity to move to the Middle East. The Napoli ace wants to move to England, where Liverpool and Manchester United are both interested in his services.
Premier League giants could battle for Osimhen
As a result, the Reds are looking at alternatives and Osimhen is believed to be quite high on that list. They have already held talks with his entourage as they consider making an offer in the near future.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have also held talks with his camp and remain keen on adding him to their squad. They have already signed Matheus Cunha and are closing on Bryan Mbeumo’s signature. Despite that, Ruben Amorim wants Osimhen as he looks to go ahead with a new-look trio.
With Osimhen preferring a move to England, it will be interesting to see which of the two clubs ends up winning the race. While he is protected by a £63 million release clause, Napoli are open to negotiations but would certainly look for something in excess of £50 million.
